How to Smooth Frizzy Hair

Some effective ways that other women use to control their frizzy hair:
  • Go natural. Stop trying to curl your hair if you have straight hair. Go with your natural hair and you will avoid drying your hair further. If you have been doing this, then you might have noticed that curling or straightening hair causes dryness, which could lead to frizzy hair. If you can’t totally avoid this, then try to minimize the harmful treatments. Better yet, use more natural ways to curl and straighten hair. Curl your hair using the traditional curlers.

  • Use mild shampoo. Using a lot of shampoo all the time can lead to dry hair and may cause frizzy hair. Use only enough shampoo for cleaning the hair. Consider using milder shampoo, too, like those made for babies or kids.

  • Condition hair regularly. This does not mean that you should condition your hair every day. You should cycle your shampoo and conditioner every week, such as shampooing every other day and applying conditioner twice a week. Doing this will smoothen the hair without drying it up. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendation when using conditioner, which says that the product should sit on your hair and scalp for about two minutes.

  • Use deep conditioner once a week. If you can, go to the salon and have a deep conditioning treatment at least once a month, if not once a week. Invest on a deep conditioning treatment that you can use at home and use once a week. This will ease the frizz and make your hair smooth and silky.

  • Blow-dry the hair using light heat. Don’t use the high heat setting when blow drying hair. That can literally cook frizzy hair. Instead, use the light setting or better yet, the cool setting. Drying your hair in front of an electric fan or hand fan is better. You’ll not only conserve energy but you can also protect your hair from the damaging heat of blow dryers.

  • Lessen chemical-based hair treatments. Stay away from hair dyes, bleach, or any other hair treatments that use chemicals. Too many salon treatments can cause dryness, which can lead to frizzy hair.

  • Use hair moisturizer. Applying moisturizer to your hair will minimize the problem. However, do not use moisturizer too often and only apply it on the problem areas. If you overdo its application, you’ll only introduce your hair to chemical exposure.

  • Apply clarifying shampoo once a week. This shampoo is specially formulated to minimize and remove chemical build-up on hair.
